SENECA COUNTY REPUBLICANS UNANIMOUSLY ENDORSE O’MARA FOR REELECTION: Highlight O’Mara’s advocacy for county, regional priorities

Updated: Nov 6

Seneca Falls, N.Y., February 7—The Seneca County Republican Committee has unanimously endorsed the reelection of New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) in New York’s 58th Senate District.

In 2022, following statewide legislative redistricting, the 58th District O’Mara represents was expanded to include all or parts of seven counties across the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions, including all of Seneca County. He also represents Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, and Yates counties, and part of Allegany County (the towns of Alfred, Almond, Amity, Andover, Birdsall, Burns, Grove, Independence, Scio, Ward, Wellsville, and Willing).

Seneca County Republican Committee Chairman Tom Fox said, “It is an honor to support Senator OMara for another term. He is a dedicated representative who works non-stop for the people."

Senator O’Mara said, Beginning this second year of my first term representing Seneca County, I appreciate the ongoing and strong support of GOP Chairman Tom Fox and the Seneca County Republican Committee and look forward to continuing to represent Seneca County and our entire region, stand behind the priorities we share, work together on common goals, and keep fighting in Albany for the future of our communities.

“This November will mark a significant crossroads for the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions, and this entire state and nation. The outcome will define the direction of Upstate New York for the next generation of communities, employers, families, taxpayers, and workers. I share the feelings and beliefs of many citizens here at home that we cannot afford to keep following the dangerous and destructive road we have been on for the past several years in New York State government under one-party, all-Democrat, downstate-dominated control. It has been a disaster and a failure. It has made this state less safe, less affordable, less free, less economically competitive, less responsible, and far less hopeful for the future. I look forward to joining Seneca County Republicans and our Republican counterparts across this region and state to begin taking back New York to begin rebuilding safer and stronger communities.”

O'Mara currently serves as the ranking member on two of the state Senate’s key committees: the Senate Finance Committee, and the Senate Investigations and Government Operations Committee. He also serves as a member on the following five committees: Codes, Energy and Telecommunications, Insurance, Judiciary, and Rules.

From 2015 to 2018, O’Mara served as the Chair of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee where he helped spearhead the development and enactment of numerous key initiatives to strengthen the state’s commitment to environmental conservation.

Prior to his election to the Senate, O’Mara represented the 137th Assembly District for three consecutive terms.

Throughout his public service, O’Mara has focused on developing and supporting public policies and strategies to encourage the state to strengthen New York’s economic climate for doing business in New York by opposing tax increases, out-of-control state spending, unfunded state mandates on local governments, overregulation, and oppressive property taxes.

In the Senate, he has been at the forefront of efforts to revitalize Upstate New York’s manufacturing sector.

Senator O’Mara is a native of Chemung County, born and raised in Horseheads. He and his wife, Marilyn, reside in Big Flats. They have three grown children.
