Senator O'Mara and Assemblyman Palmesano help celebrate the 175th Anniversary of St. Ann's Church in Hornell

Assemblyman Phil Palmesano and I welcomed the opportunity on Sunday to join Bishop John S. Bonnici, Father Stanley Kacprzak, and members of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Hornell at a special Mass honoring the 175th anniversary of St. Ann's Church!
Assemblyman Palmesano, Assemblyman Joe Sempolinski, and I sponsored a Legislative Resolution, approved by the New York State Senate and Assembly in May, recognizing this wonderful milestone in the church’s history.
Our Resolution reads, in part, “Throughout its distinguished history, St. Ann's Church hasremained steadfast in its mission to proclaim the Gospel, strengthen family and community life, and serve the people of Hornell and the surrounding region with compassion, faith, and dedication.”
The Resolution further notes that St. Ann’s has “has stood as a spiritual home for countless families throughout times of prosperity and hardship alike, ministering to railroad workers, immigrants, laborers, and residents of the greater Hornell region for nearly two centuries.”

On a personal note, Assemblyman Sempolinski and his family are members of the parish, while Assemblyman Palmesano grew up in the parish with his family, served as an altar boy at St. Ann’s, and attended St. Ann’s School from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade.
Assemblyman Palmesano’s mother, Joanne, still resides in Hornell and is a parish member (see photo below).
As Bishop Bonnici said at Sunday’s mass, “The faith is alive and well in the (Canisteo) Valley.”
